Open Arms Trans Social Group

A safe and welcoming place for transgender kids, young adults, friends, and families

About the Open Arms Trans Social Group

Mission

The Open Arms Trans Social Group’s mission is to provide a safe and welcoming space for transgender youth, children, their friends, and their families. We talk, listen, learn, share common experiences, and provide a supportive community for each other.

History

The LGBTQ (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer/Questioning) Welcoming Congregation Committee of Second Unitarian Church of Omaha started this group because members of the committee felt a strong need to serve as a resource to transgender youth, children, and their friends and families. Our first meeting was held in February 2012. With this meeting, we started a tradition of a potluck meal and social gathering every third Saturday of the month. We meet from noon to 2:00 pm at the church at 3012 S. 119th Street in Omaha.

As a group we agree to:

  • Confidentiality
  • Respectful listening
  • Take care of each other
  • Speak from our own experiences
  • Assume best intent and ask for clarification
  • Allow each other to self-identify
  • Respect silences
  • Be excellent to each other, and party on dudes!
